Have you and your kid’s ever used sidewalk chalk paint before? We just did and let me tell you if you haven’t experienced sidewalk chalk paint, then you are missing out on having some major fun in the sun. My kid’s LOVED using our sidewalk chalk paint (which only has 3 ingredients). They painted our driveway, rocks, shells, leaves, flowers, and even each other. We used empty SunnyD containers to hold our sidewalk chalk paint. They are the perfect size and store the paint great!

I must admit as we were painting 2 bottles were spilled, but that is only because Little Dragon is 2, not a terrible 2 but definitely a mischievous little 2 year old who likes to tease his sister. He dumped over 2 bottles then used the paint on the sidewalk to make handprints with and you know how much I love my kid’s handprints, I couldn’t be mad at him :).

Thank goodness we recently picked up a 24 pack case from Sam’s Club (which by the way are currently on a Rollback price and an extra good buy!). We had a bit of trouble finding them, so to let you know they are in the front of therefrigerated section right now because they are on special until the end of July (now youdon’t have to wander lost like I did :).For more fun in the sun ideas with SunnyD please visitWhereFunBegins.net. The mixed berry popsicles by Life with the Crust Cut Off look amazing, we aredefinitelygoing to be making some in the future!

Ingredients:
1/2 Cup water
1/2 Cup cornstarch
Food Coloring (We used drops this time instead of gel)

Directions:

Place all the ingredients in your container, close the lid, shake to mix the ingredients up, and then you are ready to paint.

You don’t even need measuring spoons to make the paint because the notches on the bottle indicate the amounts needed. Fill an empty SunnyD container to the second notch with cornstarch and fill with water until the level reaches the fourth notch, add food coloring, shake, and your done. The kid’s thought it was so fun shaking up their SunnyD containers. If you want, you can use a permanent marker to write the colors on the bottle like I did.

My son got paint on his shoes but once we were inside I used a wet wash cloth and it wiped right off.

  1. Dear Katie, love your blog!

Just wondering if it stains on cement floor? Does it wash off easily like chalks?

    1. We used the paint outside and eventually it washed away naturally and the kids cleaned up fine too, although I would be cautious with clothes. I’m not really sure about how it would due on a cement floor. My guess is if the floor is sealed it would probably be okay but you may want to test it out first. Hope it all goes well 🙂

  3. My son is allergic to corn, do you have a suggestion for a substitution?

    1. Hi Raye, Maybe Tapioca Starch would work. I haven't tried it, but it is similar to corn starch. I'll have to give it a try when I get a chance. 🙂

  4. I made mini sets of these for a bday party favor using "jello shot" cups. I put a drop of food coloring, then filled with cornstarch. I included directions to fill up with water and shake. Kids LOVED them, and they were "magic" because you couldn't see the color until water was added.
