So I have been going to the gym faithfully for a few months now and I am still not used to it yet. Everyone keeps telling me, I will learn to love it but sadly I am not at the love stage yet. I am working extra hard not to give up, especially since the scale isn’t working in my favor but I am going. Why, because as long as I continue to indulge in West African spicy goat meat stew and rice with fried plantain, then I will need all the gym time I can get to work off the calories. If you’re looking for goat meat recipes, the whole family can enjoy then this is it.

This African spicy goat meat stew is very similar to Dominican’s chivo guisado Picante. The only difference is the spices and preparation method. The same thing can be said for Venezuela’s chivo stew. Some people also refer to this as Nigerianred stew or Africain red stew. I think it’s because various countries in African enjoy it. So basically, this goat meat stew is your gateway to African cuisine.

By now you’re probably wondering where I got goat meat from, well I get them from various places. Sometimes I go to the farm but that might not be for first-timers. For this recipe, I bought the goat meat at stop and shop. Yes, you heard right. If you don’t see it on display, ask the butcher and he will get it for you from the back. By the way, resist the urge to tell the butcher to remove the fat, trust me it adds extra flavor to your stew, so please leave the fat on, it makes for a delicious goat stew.

Don’t be alarmed, this goat stew isn’t a complicated recipe although the ingredient list looks daunting. In reality, it’s actually fairly easy to put together, just follow the instruction and you will be fine. If for some weird reason, goat meat stew isn’t your cup of tea, maybe this fried fish stew will tickle your fancy. By the way, this recipe is spicy because of the scotch bonnet pepper, if you can’t handle the heat, then you can leave that out and the stew will taste just as good.
